SHARE Cloughjordan's Living Heritage in a free event in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum in Cloughjordan on Tuesday August 15 &th and Wednesday August 16th from 4-7pm as part of Heritage Week 2023.
Together, they will create an online and in-person exhibition that illustrates Cloughjordan’s Living Heritage and how old skills, customs, places and objects have inspired unexpected throughlines from the past to the present day.
What examples of Living Heritage are uniquely Cloughjordanian? They are open to more suggestions about past and present local passions and skills, for example Hurling; Circus Performing; Dry Stone Walling; Beekeeping and Baking from old recipes. Could they include Uilleann Piping and Lace Making too? And let’s not forget their love of Holy Wells!
To be a part of this unique event, they ask you to identify an object, custom, practice or place with a living connection to Cloughjordan and bring it to the Museum between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday August 15th and Wednesday August 16th.
Objects help us to appreciate the craft or skill or tradition that created them. It could be a family heirloom that has been handed down through generations. Perhaps it’s an object of historic importance to your family and the community. Maybe it’s not an object at all, it could be less physical and more intangible. They’re interested in all your ideas!
While you are with them at the Museum, they will record why this is meaningful to you and the community, take a photograph and create a catalogue entry for inclusion in the exhibition in October.
