A man has appeared in court accused of biting down on another man’s leg for almost two minutes breaking the skin in a Portlaoise bar.

Olusola Friday, 33, with an address at 53 Thornberry, Abbeyleix is accused of assault causing harm at Coppers Bar, Market Square, Portlaoise on May 27 last year.

Garda Sergeant Michael Tarpey said it is alleged the man bit another man’s left leg “for nearly two minutes” breaking skin in the assault.  Sgt Tarpey said the injured party had to undergo medical tests after the incident.

“Bit on his leg for two minutes?” asked Judge Andrew Cody at the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

A solicitor for the accused said his client was being “restricted” and was attempting to get the injured party to let go. He asked for legal aid and to see CCTV from the incident.

Judge Cody granted legal aid and adjourned the matter to October 12.
