A blatant act of callous indifference has sparked fury in an area of Offaly

What appears to have been a trailer load of building and construction rubble was dumped without warning or permission in an extremely tranquil area known as Wood Gate in Durrow.

Local woman Teresa Feery said she went out yesterday between 2.30pm and was back home at about 2.45pm. When she was leaving the house again at 5pm the dumping had taken place.

She said she is furious and has reported it to the gardai and local councillors.

Wood Gate is on the Offaly border but Teresa's home is in Westmeath.

''It had to be brought out on a tractor and trailer. It will take a digger to load it back onto a truck,'' said Teresa.''We try to keep the place along here very tidy and it's not good enough,'' she added.

The pile contains slates, sand, stones and an empty can of roofing resin.

Like all waste, construction and demolition waste should be disposed of responsibly.

If the culprits are discovered they face prosecution and a fine in court.

Derryclure recycling centre accept rubble and construction waste at its facility and it costs €190 a ton.

If anyone saw anything suspicious yesterday afternoon in the Durrow area they are asked to contact the gardai.
