Well wishes paid as Birr Castle's Lord Rosse celebrates 87th birthday

Well wishes were paid over the weekend to Birr Castle's Lord Rosse who has turned 87.

The Birr Castle Demesne Facebook page posted a photograph of Lord Rosse on the grounds and said: "We would like to wish Lord Rosse a very happy birthday, a marvelous 87 years young today!"

The Offaly Historical Society was one of the first to add their well wishes.

"Best wishes to Lord Rosse on his 87th. He, his family and staff at the Demesne have ensured Birr’s central place in the tourism drive in the midlands. His support for Birr archives began sixty years ago. The science museum is outstanding," they said.

Other locals added their well wishes in the comments section.

One wrote: "Happy birthday Lord Rosse and many happy returns of the day."

Another said: "Happy Birthday and congratulations for maintaining the estate over many years."

A third added: "Happy birthday, Lord Rosse. We have many fond memories of you calling round in a morning to check we were all ok after a night under canvas."
