Offaly locals fume as street lights fixed last week are not working again

Tullamore based Independent Councillor Sean O'Brien has stated that the public deserve more certainty with public lighting and that the Council need a contractor that can be fully reliable.

"After a lot of pressure we got a lot of public lights fixed over the past week but there is still a lot to do to have them all working,” he outlined this week.

“I have been getting messages from many areas over the past week telling me about particular lights  that are not working.  As we are now well into October and with the clocks going back next week people are naturally worried about the long dark nights.”

Cllr O'Brien said “safety is essential and people need to feel comfortable walking in their estates and in public places."

"We need a contractor who is  fully reliable and who can provide a service to fix the lights when required.”

He claimed that there "there" are now so many lights not working that it is taking time to get them fixed.”

Cllr O'Brien acknowledged that “great work was done in Arden View last week but now I am informed that the lights are again not working in a section involving 24 houses and they were only fixed last week.”

He advised people that “if you notice a light not working let me know, log it on www.fixmystreet.ie and email  roads@offalycoco.ie”

“I will continue to pursue this matter until every light is working properly and try to ensure that we have an effective service for the continuing repair of public lights," concluded Cllr O' Brien.
