Shane Lowry gives honest assessment of his 2023 season despite Ryder Cup win
Offaly golfer Shane Lowry has given an honest assessment of his year on the golf course as he packed up his clubs after another season.
The Clara man, who plans to come home to Ireland for a time in December, was reflecting after a rollercoaster year that's saw his individual form suffer despite him earning a milestone with Europe by winning the Ryder Cup in September.
He said: "Another year in the books. The end of my 15th season on Tour. As always it was full of ups and downs but without doubt a bucket list year for me. Winning the Ryder cup the way we did in Rome was a dream come true.
"I know my results individually could be better and I will work hard over the winter to improve and come out firing in 2024.
"Thanks to all my family, my team and people who have supported me this year and see you all in the new year."
Shane is now 37th in the golf world rankings having ended 2022 in 20th place on the table. His friend and Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy is ending 2023 in second spot in the rankings, behind US star Scottie Scheffler who now world number one.
