Roscrea loses podiatry services to Nenagh

Roscrea loses podiatry services to Nenagh

Roscrea's podiatry services will be lost to Nenagh

PODIATRY services available in Cré House in Roscrea are set to be moved to Nenagh and a local Councillor has strongly condemned the decision.

Roscrea based Councillor, Michael Smith (FF) said people in Roscrea are "bitterly disappointed" over the loss of services.

“At a stroke of a pen, podiatry services for Roscrea have been transferred to Nenagh. This very necessary facility was available to the people of Roscrea and its hinterland at Cré House. The accommodation is now needed by the HSE for other health services", Cllr. Smith said.

"Bitter disappointment has been expressed by people who need podiatry and chiropody services. Many who suffer from diabetes, others who are feeble or immobile, and have age-related diseases require this specialty. The consequences of not being able to avail of this service can be extremely serious.

"However difficult it is for people who have their own private transport to travel to Nenagh, what about people who have to rely on public transport? Surely, it is possible to find alternative accommodation elsewhere in Roscrea", Cllr. Smith said.

"The town has never been so endowed with such magnificent facilities and especially so with the new primary health care centre.

"I am calling on the Health Service Executive to urgently review this decision and at the very least, provide a service once every two weeks. That outcome would give enormous relief to people who need this important treatment", Cllr. Smith said.
