Anne Marie Feighery of Feighery's Farm, Kilcormac

Kilcormac farmer Anne Marie Feighery was crowned the FRS Network Diversification Farmer of the year 2023 while Agri Data Analytics, Daingean, took home the AgTech Ireland Best Agritech Hardware Product at the inaugural Better Farming Awards on Thursday night in the Heritage Hotel in Killenard. Former minister and broadcaster, Ivan Yates served as MC for the night while guests Minister of State, Michael Heydon and Professor, Frank O’Mara also attended.

Feighery’s Farm first launched Irish Beetroot Juice in March 2019 and the only option for the Irish consumer was to drink imported versions from the UK and Germany predominantly. It is a family orientated business as the beetroot for the juice is all grown pesticide-free on the family farm in the heart of Ireland in Co. Offaly. Judges were impressed by her ability to spot a gap in the market and develop a product. They said: “She has shown a clear vision for developing the business and is linking it to positive showcasing of her farm via open days, even linking it with schools.”

The Bovine Breathalyser from Offaly based Agri Data Analytics is a non-invasive machine that measures enteric methane emissions from ruminants. Using a small amount of feed, ruminants are enticed into a feeding area where testing takes place. While eating, multiple breath samples are collected and passed through specialised gas sensors that accurately measure the amount of methane produced by the animal.

The FRS Network Diversification Farmer of the year award commends a farm's exceptional efforts in establishing an alternative business or adding value with a commitment to sustainable farming, driving economic improvement and embracing a positive story for the industry.

The AgTech Ireland Best Agritech Hardware Product recognises an agritech hardware product that contributes to a more sustainable, better farming practice within the industry’s ecosystem for the betterment of the sector.

20 awards were presented on the night celebrating the highest levels of achievement made in the industry’s move towards a more sustainable sector.

The judging process comprised a panel of 13 expert judges. The unique process was fully transparent, independent and thorough to ensure the best nominations are recognised and rewarded. Our panel of judges are all well respected and hugely knowledgeable individuals working in, with or advising in the areas of farming, sustainability/ESG and agribusiness.
