Up and coming Offaly soccer star signs for first senior team

A TALENTED and very promising young Offaly female soccer player has signed her first senior contract.

17 year old Millie Daly signed for Wexford FC last week and it is another important step forward in her progress. An underage international with Ireland, the Ballinagar woman joins from Shelbourne, where she played U-19s last season.

The daughter of Brian and Margaret Daly, Millie started out her career with Killeigh Schoolboys and Girls Soccer Club as a young girl, still in National School.

She started at U-6 level and it was not long before she showed potential. She was part of the Midlands Emerging Talent Squad and also played with the Midland Schoolgirls team in the Gaynor Cup. She competed with Athlone Town FC for two seasons before moving to Shelbourne.

She took a huge step forward when she was capped by Ireland U-17s last year, scoring the first goal in a 3-3 draw on her debut in a friendly in Portugal.

She has attended training with Ireland U-19s this year, along with another excellent local soccer player, Ellen Dolan from Mucklagh.

A student at Tullamore College, Millie is a left winger and will also be eligible for U-19 next year, when she will be really aiming to make her mark.

Joining Wexford FC represents another great opportunity for Millie. They compete in the highest level of womens' senior soccer in the country, the League of Ireland Premier Division – the season starts in March.
