Tullamore started very brightly, and scored within the first 5 minutes of the game. Clonmel had an attacking scrum on the half way line, they opted to spread the ball to the outside backs but Conor Dunne intercepted the play and smashed the opposition out half. Steven Joyce picked up the ball and tore down the middle of the pitch. As the Clonmel defence closed on Steven, he threw a perfect pass to fellow Daingean man Scott Milne who skipped over the line for the first score.

Tullamore continued to apply pressure and added another score soon after. From a 5 metre penalty, Tullamore executed a smart trick play to put Mark Kennedy through a gap, he was held up just short only for Kalvin Mahon to bury his way over the line for Tullamore’s second of the day.

As the half closed, Tullamore again found themselves in the scoring zone. Eoin O’Reilly zipped a pass to Craig Strong, who flung the ball to Conor Dunne. Conor put on the after burners and beat his opposite man to cross the white for Tullamore’s third of the day. The half time score was 19-0 in favour of the home side.

The second half simmered out and Tullamore lost their way for large parts of the half. The visitors scored two tries late on in the day to earn a bonus point, but Tullamore will be disappointed that they couldn’t get the coveted 4th try to get the extra point that was on offer..

There were a few stand out performances for the men in red and black. Cathal Behan continues to excel in the front row, while Ciaran Ennis and Colm Heffernan both deserve special mentions for their exploits. Mark Kennedy was awarded the man of the match on the day for his brilliant work in attack and defence. The side now have a week off and will travel to Midleton on the 10th of February.
