Bog Run to raise money for kids with cancer in Offaly this March

People in Offaly and the surrounding areas are urged to get involved in an upcoming Bog Run to help raise money for Irish children with cancer.

The first 'Let's Get Boggin' Cancer Fund for Children is inviting people to get involved with their inaugural event at Lough Boora Discovery Park, Co Offaly on March 24 this year.

Open to participants aged 8 years of age and up, it's the perfect opportunity to spend time with loved ones and friends while raising money for a good cause.

Those taking part will trek through bushes and march over fallen trees to defeat the muddy bog to raise money for Cancer Fund for Children.

A non-profit organisation, the fund provides vital services to children and young people (aged 0 - 24) diagnosed with cancer across Ireland.

Their team of Cancer Support Specialists provide informal emotional, social and therapeutic support, at home, in hospital and at the charity’s therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle Co. Down.

Plans are also underway for the development of the second Daisy Lodge centre in Cong, Co. Mayo.

The event on March 24 will be the fund's ninth annual bog run, following a fantastic event at Castlewellan Forest Park in 2023.

Participants are advised to wear old runners instead of welly boots, as well as a swimming cap.

Events and Digital Fundraiser for Cancer Fund for Children, Sinéad O'Malley, said, "It’s hard to put into words the uniqueness of this event and the fun that is to be had by all participants.

"It’s just a great way to challenge yourself and have great craic, all while helping to support children and young people diagnosed with cancer."

Participants will also receive a goodie bag, a 2024 Bog Run medal to remember their victory over the bog and a certificate as a thank you.

Each participant will also be supported in their fundraising efforts by a member of the charity’s fundraising team.

Registration for the Bog Run can be completed through the Cancer Fund for Children website and deadline for registrations is 1pm on March 21, 2024.
