Government backs UNESCO World Heritage status for location in Offaly

LAOIS/OFFALY TD, Charlie Flanagan, has welcomed the news that the Government is formally backing UNESCO World Heritage status for Birr Castle and Observatory.

The National Monuments service is working closely with the Astronomical Observatories of Ireland (AOI) in advancing a very exciting North/South project being a partnership between Dunsink Observatory, the Armagh Observatory, and Birr Scientific and Heritage Foundation.

Deputy Flanagan acknowledged the great work ongoing at Birr Castle and concluded that with State backing the UNESCO status could become a reality.
