A clever new bin has been installed on the main street in Edenderry, Co Offaly.

The 'big belly' bin uses solar panels to generate electricity uses to power a compacting mechanism inside. This creates more space for rubbish which means it doesn't overflow or need to be collected as often.

Cllr Robert McDermott welcomed the installation alongside Ollie Oliver Bryant this week.

Not only is it solar-panelled but the bins is also fitted with a very clever dog poo bag dispenser aimed at reducing dog foul on footpaths.
