BREAKING: Grainne Walsh misses out on Olympic place after narrowest of defeats in qualifier

Despite winning more points and winning on two judge's scorecards with the other three rating the bout as a draw, Grainne Walsh lost her Olympic qualifying bout in Italy and a result misses out on a place in Paris for now.

Over the three rounds, the Offaly boxer made all the running as her Polish opponent Aneta Riegelska was given a point deduction for persistent holding and also a standing eight count in the second round.

Going into the final round, Grainne was ahead on four of the five judge's scorecards. She then won the final round on three scorecards but that wasn't even as she suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 3-2 in a split decision.
