Tributes share 'lovely memories' after death of legendary Offaly resident

Tributes are being paid this week to an Offaly man who has died at the age of 91. 

John Kane from Killure near Rhode, Co Offaly, died on Monday "surrounded by his loving family in the care of Tullamore Hospital."

He is predeceased by his loving wife Patsy and his son John.

His RIP.ie notice says: "He will be deeply regretted and sadly missed by his family: daughter Geraldine, son Michael, son-in-law Charlie, daughter-in-law Ciara, grandchildren Stephen, Niall, Nathan, Pádhraic, Eimear and Odhran, great-grandchildren David and Emily, sister Molly, niece Mary, extended famiily, dear neighbours, carers and friends."

Many people have been paying tribute to John in recent days with one local describing him as "a lovely neighbour in Killure who could turn his hand to anything," adding, "I have such lovely memories of time spent with Patsy and him when I was younger. Rest in peace John."

Another said: "Sincere sympathy to all of John’s family and friends on the sad passing of a lovely gentleman. May he rest in peace with his beloved Patsy."

A former colleague wrote: "Deepest Sympathy to all the Kane family on the sad passing John. John was on my shift in Croghan Briquette Factory for many years. He was a great worker and great work colleague during all that time. Rest in peace now, John."

Funeral Arrangements:

Reposing at Larkin's Funeral Home, Edenderry this Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm with Rosary at 8pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday at 12 noon in St. Peter's Church, Rhode followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. You can also take part in John's Funeral Mass via the webstream link.
