Age Friendly Roscrea recently held a health promotion focused on bowel cancer awareness. Bernadette Mullins, Senior Health Promotion Officer with the HSE, went through the symptoms to watch out for and encouraged all those over 59 years of age to avail of the free Bowel Screening Service.
Bowel cancer can be detected early using the screening and treatment can commence as soon as possible with better outcomes. To order a test for yourself call 1800 45 45 55.
Roscrea Age Friendly will be hosting an Alzheimer Tea Day on Monday, May 13 at 10.30am in association with An Garda Síochána. We are very grateful to Sgt. Ciarán Ó’Ráighne who has been the main force behind the fundraising event. Ciarán raised in excess of €30k last year cycling from his home in Indreabhán to Dingle in one day.
We will also have a special guest on the day in The Courthouse – The Tipperary Rose, Tara Brady. We look forward to welcoming you all for tea, coffee and delicious treats.
We are grateful to our sponsors this year – Super Valu Roscrea, The Good Bean Coffee Roastery and those who donate cakes, buns and healthy treats. The Alzheimer Society offers support to people living with memory loss, their families and carers. Our local advisor for Tipperary is David Kieran (087) 913 7520.
