A call for the development of a new industrial park in Tullamore has been made by a local councillor and candidate in June's local elections.
Said Independent councillor, Sean O' Brien: "Our industrial park in Sragh is now almost full and we urgently need to plan to develop a new one. We need to attract foreign direct investment and in order to do so we need to have a high quality industrial park to accommodate those industries.”
Cllr O'Brien said he spoke to the new Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke, about this during his visit to Tullamore on Thursday last.
"We have a fund in the council from the sale of land and I am asking that this money be used to get the process under way for the purchase of an appropriate site for the new industrial park. We need to work closely with the IDA and the Department of Enterprise on this project. Tullamore has a very good industrial history and now is the time to prepare for the next phase of quality enterprises and provide high class employment for people locally," concluded Cllr O' Brien.
