IT took a truly heroic, all round performance for Offaly to condemn Tipperary to a 2-20 to 2-14 defeat in the All-Ireland U-20 Hurling Championship final on Saturday. It completed a remarkable collection by Offaly who join Cork and Galway as the only counties to have won All-Ireland Senior, U-20/21 and Minor Football and Hurling Championship titles in both codes – and Offaly also have an All-Star in every position in both codes.

Liam Hoare - One of the heroes throughout the year, Liam Hoare had saved crucial penalties in the wins over Kilkenny and Dublin. He was powerless to stop Darragh McCarthy's early penalty on this occasion and could do nothing about the two Tipp goals. He lived a bit more dangerously than usual, getting away with an early misplaced pass and not hitting the target with every puckout or clearance. He was, however, very reliable when the ball came into the danger area, hit the spot with most clearances and he did well. Rating – 7
