Barry Egan - You just had to admire the way Barry Egan played here. Outstanding in the first round win over Dublin, he hadn't recaptured the same form in the following games and it looked like the downward trajectory was going to continue here early on, like it was going to be one of those days as the ball didn't quite stick. Yet he managed to turn it around spectacularly, another great example of what can happen when you keep trying to do the right thing when the game isn't running for you. He got two absolutely lovely points in the first half once he settled into it, ones that were far from simple to score and he foraged for everything. He didn't get on much ball in the second half but did exactly what a full forward is supposed to do, staying in close to goal and this yielded a powerful dividend when he pulled hard and true on Shane Rigney's dropping ball for Offaly's all important second goal. He was replaced in the 49th minute and it was no harm to get in fresh legs at that stage but he made a profound contribution to the win. Rating – 8.
