Neil Feighery being raised aloft by supporters following his election
With a huge first preference vote of 1962 Fine Gael's Neil Feighery topped the poll and was elected on the first count in the Tullamore Electoral Area early on Sunday morning.
The Killoughey man comfortably exceeded the quota of 1459 when returning officer, Monica Cleary made the announcement at 2.10am.
He was raised aloft by family and supporters at an almost deserted count centre in Mucklagh.
Fianna Fail's Cllr Frank Moran garnered 1429 first preferences, just 30 short of the quota, while first time candidates, Aoife Masterson of Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail's Ollie Bryant performed exceptionally well capturing 1216 and 1182 first preferences.
Sitting councillors, Independent Sean O'Brien and Fianna Fail's Tony McCormack and Declan Harvey, also performed strongly capturing 1337, 1326 and 1269 first preferences respectively.
Independent councillor Sandy Feehan Smollen took 782 first preferences and observers at the count felt it was virtually impossible for her to hold her seat.
Patrick Broder of the Irish Freedom Party took 418 first preferences with the Greens' Liam Walsh getting 394 votes.
Sinn Fein's Tim Farrell and Independent Deirdre Dillon returned 201 and 155 votes respectively.
