A muslim community group have launched a campaign to raise money for a new mosque in Tullamore.
The Midlands Islamic Culture Centre Tullamore (MICCT) launched the campaign on Go Fund Me due to the community outgrowing their current rented location, which is described as "small".
According to a statement on the fundraising page, the number of muslims in Tullamore has now surpassed 500, and the rented property for daily and Friday prayers is subsequently "no longer sufficient for the community needs".
The MICCT hopes to purchase a permanent location to renovate into a mosque and Islamic centre to facilitate prayers, community services, and Quran classes for muslim children.
A message on the fundraiser - which has so far raised just over €1,500 of its €250,000 girl - states, "We currently have €200,000 from local donations but require additional €250,000 to buy and renovate a local property in town."
