Mystery of Garda car in ditch in Offaly solved amid reports of serious crash
A mystery of a marked Garda Audi SUV in a ditch in Offaly has been solved after it was confirmed the vehicle was involved in a two-car crash.
The image of the SUV in the ditch was widely shared on social media with many accounts publishing false information on the location of the incident.
Some pages claimed the incident had happened between Edenderry and Rathangan on the Kildare-Offaly border but the crash actually occurred many miles away from there on the N62 between Ferbane and Cloghan.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that officers are "investigating a road traffic collision on the N62 at Cush East, Co Offaly yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, June 25, 2024."

They told Offaly Live: "The collision occurred at approximately 1:30pm and involved two cars. One of these cars was an on-duty official Garda vehicle and driven by a Garda member.
"Both drivers received medical attention at the scene. No hospitalisations were required."
Investigations are ongoing in the collision.
