Details of a proposed new layout for the Whitehall (Bury) Bridge in Tullamore have been revealed by Offaly County Council.

The works which will be carried out in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA) include new kerbing and footpath on the L-2023-1 at Convent Road and Whitehall Bridge.

The carriageway on Whitehall Bridge will be narrowed in order to accommodate one-way vehicular traffic.

The junction at St Brigid's Place and Convent Road will be tightened and three controlled pedestrian crossings will be introduced on Daingean Road and Convent Road.

Meanwhile an uncontrolled crossing will be put in place on the junction of Whitehall Bridge and Daingean Road. There will be signage and lining, indicating one-way traffic.

The Whitehall Bridge is used by many pedestrians and students attending the Sacred Heart School and Tullamore College.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development will be available for inspection at Offaly County Council, Áras an Chontae, Charleville Road, and Tullamore Municipal District, Acres Hall, Cormac Street, Tullamore.
