Clendennen confirms bid for Fine Gael General Election nomination in new Offaly constituency

Kinnitty based  Cllr John Clendennen has confirmed he will seek the party nomination to be the Fine Gael candidate in the Offaly constituency for the next General Election.

Over the past number of weeks, Cllr Clendennen discussed the opportunity with his family, as well as a broad cohort of the party membership spanning the constituency.

The recent elections returned an extra seat for the party in the Birr Municipal District for Offaly County Council, and Cllr Clendennen played a leading role in making it happen, whilst also growing his personal vote in a highly competitive Electoral Area.

‘The results of the Local Elections and stellar leadership shown by our new Taoiseach, Simon Harris, have undoubtedly brought ‘A New Energy’ to the party both locally and nationally. I wholeheartedly believe the party must now build on the current momentum to ensure Fine Gael wins a seat in Offaly in the next General Election’, according to Cllr Clendennen.

’It’s important to acknowledge the help and support of so many people across the constituency, that gave up their time to help and campaigned, ensuring Fine Gael now holds five from nineteen seats at Offaly County Council’ continued Cllr Clendennen.

The Birr District Municipal Councillor is one of the longest serving Fine Gael Councillors at Offaly County Council and has previously contested Selection Conventions for the party, ‘over the past ten years as an elected public representative, I have proven my ability to work diligently to deliver for local communities, and I believe I have the skillset and experience to represent the people of Offaly at Dáil Éireann, and I am now asking the party membership to give me their support at the selection convention scheduled for August 29th’, concluded Cllr Clendennen.
