Man urinated and smeared blood in Garda van
A DEFENDANT from Tullamore was convicted of causing damage to the cell of a Garda van, during the recent sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Nikita Petros 2 Shambles Court, Tullamore was charged with “damaging” the vehicle by “urinating and smearing blood on the walls of the cell” on the 28th of June, 2024 in Market Square Tullamore. He was also charged with being intoxicated in a public place on the same date and in Market Square as well.
Mr Petros pleaded guilty to both offences. Sgt Brendan Kearns told the court that at 4.20am the Guards received a report of an intoxicated male in Market Square.
“When they went to the scene they saw that Mr Petros was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
He also had a cut on his forearm. When he was put in the van to be taken to the Garda Station he urinated in the cell and smeared his blood on the vehicle. It subsequently cost €100 to clean the van.”
Mr Petros told the court that he was on his way to the hospital at the time “when the Guards picked me up.” He admitted that he was in an intoxicated state.
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €400.
