NA FIANNA

U-20 FC
The curtain came down on the 2024 playing campaign for Na Fianna Football Club as the last remaining side in action, the U20 Footballers, bowed out of the Championship last Monday week losing out to St Patrick's (Ednderry / Ballyfore) like their Rd 1 encounter the previous week again by just the minimum margin on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-06. St Patricks opened the scoring with the first point in the 6th minute with Na Fianna getting off the mark in the 10th minute with a pointed free from Cein Gorman.
The sides then exchanged a point apiece in the 13th & 14th minutes with Cein Gorman again the man on target for Na Fianna. St Patricks went back in front with their 3rd point in the 21st minute from a free from their full forward. Then in the 27th minute came what would prove to be the only goal of the game when Na Fianna’s Aaron Rattigan’s shot outside the 20m line out near the sideline was spilled by the keeper on the line and dropped back into the right corner of the net.
That put Na Fianna in front for the first time and they increased that lead with the final point of the half less than a minute later scored by Niall McCabe which gave Na Fianna a 3 point lead at the break 1-03 to 0-03. That lead was short lived as St Patricks hit the ground running on the re-start sending over 3 points in a row by the 5th minute to draw level. This is how it would remain until just past the mid-point of the half when a brace of points from Robbie Gallagher put Na Fianna back into a 2 point lead.
Then between the 20th & 25th minutes St Patricks again hit 3 points without reply to re-take the lead and it would stay this way until 2 minutes into injury time when Na Fianna grabbed the equaliser with a pointed free from Robbie Gallagher.
With extra time now looming St Patricks made one final counter attack to where they managed to send over winning point. The result ends Na Fianna’s involvement in the Championship while St Patricks move on to the Quarter Final where they will face St Vincents.
NA FIANNA: Ryan Kinahan, Eamon Bolger, Adam Joyce, Ronan Hooper, Niall McCabe, Rory Grehan, Peter McKeagney, Eoin Dunne, Aaron Gorman., Eimhin Gorman, Aaron Rattigan (1-00), Sean Cuskelly, Colm Nolan, Cein Gorman (0-02), Dylan Cahill.
