The traditional pre-election public meeting in Roscrea, where voters are offered the unique opportunity to meet and question in person the candidates asking to represent them, has been announced and is expected to attract a large crowd.
Roscrea Community Development Council (RCDC) will host their public forum in the Abbey Hall next Monday, November 18th at 8pm to give the people of Roscrea and district an opportunity to meet the 2024 General Election candidates for the North Tipperary constituency.
The always engaging event offers the candidates a chance to to pitch their manifestos in person and for the voters to question them on their promises so that the people of Roscrea and district can make an informed choice of whom they think should represent them in Dail Eireann.
In the last general election Tipperary was one constituency with five seats in the Dáil and for 2024 has been again divided into two, north and south, three seater constituencies.
Thus the outgoing TD’s for the united Tipperary constituency are Martin Browne (Sinn Fein), Jackie Cahill (Fianna Fail), Alan Kelly (Labour), Michael Lowry (Independent) and Mattie McGrath (Independent).
At present there are 11 candidates declared and fighting for those three seats, with two candidates hoping to keep their seats, Alan Kelly (Labour) and Michael Lowry (Independent). Fianna Fáil's Jackie Cahill announced his retirement from politics last month, opening up a seat for at least one new face representing North Tipperary.
The other nine candidates so far declared are Cllr. Dr. Phyll Bugler (Fine Gael), Cllr. Jim Ryan (Independent), Iva Pocock (Green Party), Francis O’Toole (Aontú), Dan Harty (Sinn Fein), Diana Dwyer (People before Profit), Peter Madden (Independent/National Alliance), Cllr. Ryan O’Meara (Fianna Fail) and Cllr. Michael Smith (Fianna Fail).
All 11 have been invited to attend the event in Roscrea and each candidate present on the night will be invited to address the public meeting outlining their plans.
RCDC Chairman, John Lupton, in his announcement of the event, said it would be particularly interesting to hear in person the candidates plans which relate to and facilitate the development of Roscrea and district and the wellbeing of the people who live in Roscrea and its catchment area.
The public in attendance on the night will have the opportunity to question individual candidates and the event will end with a brief summary from each candidate.
"The public forum is of course free and open to anyone to attend and there is an open invitation to any candidate whose name will appear on the ballot paper for the North Tipperary constituency to attend and address the meeting", the RCDC Chairman said.
