ALDI opened its second bigger and brighter sister store in Tullamore at 7.30 this morning.

The spacious 1,650sqm supermarket which is situated at O'Connell Street boasts high spec fixtures and fittings. It has 91 car parking spaces including 9 electric charging spaces and 22 bike parking spaces. A new feature is the introduction of self-service checkouts in addition to the staffed checkouts.

The store is powered by 100% green electricity and features ALDI's new electronic shelf labels replacing the traditional paper price labels, this allows for a quick change of price or stock.

Store manager Yasmin Rourke, and her team, cut the ribbon and the store was opened to the public at 8am.

''I am absolutely ecstatic and very grateful to get the opportunity to open a new store in Tullamore, to build our customer base and meet our customers from the local area. I'm from Athlone, it's about meeting new faces and introducing myself to the people of Tullamore,'' said Yasmin.

''The people of the town can expect lots of great offers and great prices every day. We have lots of new special buys coming into the store twice a week. We have a great team here and we are excited to be in Tullamore.''

The new store will deliver 30 new local jobs and represents an investment of €9.8 million in the area. ALDI says this brings its total investment in Offaly to €18.8 million since opening its first store in the county in 2007.

Officiating at the opening this morning, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett said: ''I'm delighted to officially open the new Tullamore store, the third ALDI store in County Offaly and the second store in Tullamore today. This is a significant investment by ALDI in the region, one that not only strengthens the retail offering for local shoppers but also enhances the availability of choice and value within the community. ALDI has a long tradition of supporting Irish farmers, with all Bord Bia Quality Assured fresh meat, poultry and egg products delivered to stores daily. ALDI's Irish supply base continues to grow with over 330 Irish suppliers, including a growing number of fruit and vegetable producers with a strong commitment to organic produce.''
