AS THE North Tipperary Ploughing committee prepare to celebrate their 60th anniversary in 2025, their annual general meeting held recently elected a new chairman, Eamon Murphy from Ballingarry.
Mr Murphy brings a wealth of experience to this position as he has already served as chairman in the past so he is well aware of the workload the position carries with it, and with the 60

Eamon succeeds the very popular and hard working Ray Clancy (Rathcabbin) who spent seven years at the helm and who announced his wish to step aside some months ago.
Addressing the meeting in his final chairman’s address, Ray thanked his fellow officers, ladies committee with a special word of thanks to Marylin and Martina, all competitors and especially all the local ploughmen, helpers and everyone who “helped to make my life easier”, he said. He went on to thank Mairead Tierney for accommodating the meetings before he mentioned how he had promoted North Tipp Ploughing as best he could and said “I offer a massive thanks to all who helped me to do that”.

NPA director Joe Slattery sat into the chair for the election of officers and the members proposed the following committee: Presidents: James Hough (Rathcabbin), Willie Mooney (Borrisokane), Sean Lane (Rathcabbin). Chairman: Eamon Murphy (Ballingarry), Vice Chairman: Ray Clancy (Rathcabbin), Secretary: Denis Cahalan (Ballycommon), Assistant Secretary: Rose Mannion (Lorrha), Treasurer: Andrew Wilson (Templemore), Assistant Treasurer: Robert Duffy (Rathcabbin), PRO: Rose Mannion (Lorrha), Social Media: Marie Clare Fogarty (Rathcabbin), Safety Officer: Eamon Dermody (Rathcabbin), NPA Director: Joe Slattery (Kilbarron).

Joe Slattery led the tributes to the outgoing chairman Ray Clancy and said that “Ray was the best ambassador for attending ploughing matches both at home and abroad,” a sentiment echoed by the great crowd that was in attendance who gave Ray a good round of well deserved applause.
The new chairman said he was delighted and honoured to take the chair for the forthcoming year and he complimented all who had brought home trophies to the club this year, saying “any day we get medals is a good day” as he encouraged all to keep up the good work.
He went on to congratulate Joe Slattery who has been elected to judge in the European championships next March as well as offering congratulations Rose Mannion on winning a media award recently with the Nenagh Guardian.
He acknowledged and thanked also both the Nenagh Guardian and the Midland Tribune for their valued space allocated to all the coverage they give the club and mentioned how very much it is appreciated.

Next year 2025 will mark the 60th anniversary of the club and with that in mind, a sub committee was elected to oversea the preparations for this event and they are, Kieran Slattery, Martina Duffy, Rose Mannion, James Hough.

The committee are also on the lookout for a suitable site for their annual championships which will take place in March as usual. Anyone who may have a suitable site is asked to call the secretary on (087) 779 3719.
