Fianna Fáil's Ryan O'Meara celebrates his election in Thurles count centre
The curtain has fallen on counting the ballots in North Tipperary's general election and Labour's Alan Kelly and Fianna Fáil's Ryan O'Meara have taken the last two seats - joining Independent Michael Lowry who was elected after surpassing the required quota on Saturday night.
Following the distribution of Fianna Fáil's Michael Smith's votes, Independent Jim Ryan received 724 additional votes, bringing his total to 7,088 and fell short of winning a seat.
Alan Kelly received 1,241 votes bringing his total beyond the quota to 12,330 and Fianna Fáil party colleague Ryan O'Meara received 3,333 votes from Michael Smith, bringing his total to 11,118.
Ryan O'Meara was elected without reaching the quota.
Earlier in the day it appeared a full recount would be required after Independent Jim Ryan requested the votes be examined again after two partial recounts yielded different results which saw him swop the lead with Michael Smith.
However, that request was withdrawn and Returning Officer for Tipperary, James Seymour announced the final result of the North Tipperary constituency shortly before 4:30pm on Monday (Dec 2).
