RED ALERT: Met Eireann issues rare Red Warning as Storm Darragh set to bring damaging winds
Parts of Ireland are now on red alert as Met Eireann issues rare Red Warnings wit Storm Darragh set to bring extremely dangerous winds.
Met Eireann is warning people to take action to protect themselves and their property and to follow instructions and advice given by the authorities under all circumstances and be prepared for exceptional measures.
Met Eireann has issued three Red Wind Warnings with each warning that Storm Darragh will bring extremely strong and gusty northwest winds with impacts including Fallen trees, Damage to power lines, Dangerous travelling conditions, Structural damage to temporary structures and Wave overtopping.
A Red Warning for Mayo comes into effect at 10pm and remains in place until 3am.
A Red Warning for Clare and Galway comes into effect at 10pm and remains in place until 2am.
A Red Warning for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo comes into effect at 11pm and remains in place until 3am.
A series of other warnings are also in place.
Met Eireann issued a Status Orange Weather Warning for all of Ireland for Friday and Saturday.
The Status Orange Warning for all of Ireland comes into effect at 8pm on Friday for Munster and Connacht and 10pm for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. The warnings remain in place until 10am on Saturday. It warns that Storm Darragh will bring very strong and gusty northwest winds. Impacts will include fallen trees, damage to power lines, very difficult travelling conditions, damage to temporary structures and wave overtopping.
There is a Status Yellow Rain warning for Clare, Connacht, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath and Westmeath from 10am on Friday until 10am on Saturday. This warns that heavy rain on Friday will be followed by heavy showers Saturday morning.
There is also a Status Yellow Wind warning for all of Ireland from 3pm on Friday until 3pm on Saturday
