Raphael Creamer, Conor Hynes and Alan Ginson.
BIRR k-1 kickboxing had another busy weekend recently.
They had fighters competing on two different shows. Two fighters travelled to Derry city to compete on an ISKA sanctioned show called the Heat 10 and then on the Saturday, they got up early and travelled to Tullamore with another fighter to compete on Fighting Evolution Championship run by Eire Grappling, Tullamore.
The action began on the Friday after the weigh-ins and medicals were competled and passed. First up for Birr was Alan Ginson fighting against Regan Maguire representing Strabane Martial Arts.
Alan only joined Birr k-1 kickboxing a month ago from another local club and has applied himself excellently since joining. And they took this fight at short notice. Alan fought very well and had his opponent under pressure at times during the contest and after three rounds Alan lost a very close spilt decision.
Birr coach Raphael Creamer was asked to corner Amy Foley from Celtic Dragon Kickboxing from New Ross Wexford as her coach couldn't make it. Amy won the fight by unanimous decision.
Up next for Birr was Conor Hynes in the co-main event as one of only two title fights on the show that had 37 pre matched bouts.
His opponent Ciaran O Neill hailing from Castle k1 Co. Tyrone earned his title opportunity and was confident going into this fight.
Conor came to fight and win another belt.
In Round 1 Conor came out strong and fast. He completely dominated opening round with razor sharp strikes.
Round 2 was more of the same as his opponent couldn't touch him. Conor's footwork and timing were on point.
In Round 3 Conor picked up the pace again and his opponent was struggling to keep up with the frantic pace set by Conor and hurt his opponent a few times.
Round 4 was the beginning of the end for brave Ciaran O'Neill. Conor went to work again and the referee had no choice to give Ciaran a count after stumbling after receiving a jab cross hook all on the chin. The bell sounded and he made the count and was saved by the bell.
In Round 5 Ciaran came out all guns blazing realising he needed a knock out to win. Conor soon put a stop to that dropped him to the floor with a right hook to the head. He gamely got up but Conor went straight to work and forced across the ring and dropped him again and the referee waved off the fight and Conor became the new Irish ISKA national champion via KO victory.
They celebrated the night with takeaway food as a fighter has to have a strict diet.
Up early the next morning they travelled to Tullamore for the second show of the weekend, Fighting Evolution. They had Will Fogarty competing again William Kelly representing Top Pro Carlow. This fight night was held in the Bridge House Tullamore.
Will loves to use his power and he did just that and dropped his opponent at the end of round 1.
Round 2 was another close round but Will was listening to instruction well and dropped his opponent again with a pile driver of a right hook to the jaw and it was game over, Will Fogarty winning by 2nd round KO.
A great weekend for Birr k-1 kickboxing.
A big thanks to all who travelled and supported the club over the weekend and during the year.
