STORM EOWYN: Strongest ever wind gust recorded in Ireland as Storm Éowyn wreaks havoc
Provisional wind speed figures recorded by Met Éireann overnight indicate that Storm Éowyn is the strongest-ever storm to pass over Ireland.
Wind speed records have been recorded since 1945 and they were broken overnight.
According to Met Eireann, Storm Éowyn is an extreme storm and it has already broken records for the all-time mean wind speed and all-time gust speed for Ireland.
At 4am, at Mace Head (County Galway) we had a mean speed of135kph which breaks the previous record of 131kph and at 5am, at Mace Head as well, there was a gust of 183kph which breaks the previous record of 182kph.
Red Weather Warnings remain in effect this morning.
There are five Red Weather Warnings in place from Met Eireann. Even once the Red Warnings end, there is also a Status Orange Wind Warning for all of Ireland until 4pm today.
The Status Red Weather Warnings are as follows.
A Status Red Wind warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford is in place until 10am on Friday.
A Status Red Wind Warning for Clare and Galway is in place until 11am on Friday
A Status Red Wind warning for Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo is in place until Friday at 12 noon
A Status Red Wind warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon and Tipperary is in place until 11am on Friday.
A Status Red Wind Warning for Donegal is in place until 2pm on Friday.
