Cardinal Health employees outside the plant last August as details emerged that it planned to cease operations in Tullamore
Offaly based company will cease operations on a phased basis from this April to June 2026
IDA Ireland has confirmed to Independent TD Carol Nolan that its Midlands Regional Enterprise Development section is currently engaging with Cardinal Health in Tullamore to actively explore all avenues of opportunity for the facility and its impacted employees following the company’s announcement in August of last year that it would cease operations on a phased basis from April 2025 to June 2026.
The IDA have informed Deputy Nolan that that this process includes ongoing meetings with Tullamore leadership on-site, and meeting with senior corporate leaders as well as engagement with all relevant local agencies.
The Independent TD also stated she had recently assured Tullamore Chamber of her own ongoing engagement with various Government Departments in an effort to bring clarity to the steps that were being taken to support the workers and seek alternative employers for the site:
“I refuse to let the future of the Cardinal Health site and its workers be dropped from the political agenda, and that is why I am determined to ensure that the issue remains a live priority for both the IDA and Government,” said Deputy Nolan.
“To my mind the Cardinal Health facility and the highly skilled workforce that it employs represent an exceptional national and international opportunity to potential alternative employers. We must do everything possible to keep jobs in the town of Tullamore and Offaly.”
“I will certainly continue to highlight the matter at every available opportunity with both the IDA and the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment before, during and after the first phase of redundancies is implemented in the coming months,” concluded Deputy Nolan.
