Tullamore Harriers success at Leinster juvenile indoor championships

Chloe McGowan, Fayth Byrne, Roisin Cotter and Lucy Deverell at the Athletics Leinster Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Twelve of the club’s track and field juveniles travelled to TUS, Athlone, to compete in the Leinster Juvenile Indoor Championships over the weekend of March 15th and 16th. The event saw outstanding performances, with multiple podium finishes, personal bests, and season-best achievements.

Results:

Alisha Maher –Gold in the U19 60m sprint, Gold in the U19 200m sprint with a PB of 24.91 seconds and a

Katie Deverell –Gold in the U19 long jump, Silver in the U19 60m sprint, 4th in the 200m with a PB of 26.18 seconds.

Eimear Cotter –Gold in the U19 60m hurdles, 8th in the 60m sprint (PB of 8.27 seconds)

Fayth Byrne – 5th in the U16 60m sprint (PB of 8.51 seconds), 6th in the 200m (PB of 28.16 seconds)

Teagan Delaney – Season's Best in U19 200m in 27.88 seconds.

Lucy Champ – Season's Best in U19 200m in 27.62 seconds.

Lucy Deverell – 6th in the U17 long jump with a best of 4.54m.

Roisin Cotter – PBs in U16 60m sprint in 8.67 seconds and 200m in 28.85 seconds.

Chloe McGowan – PBs in U16 60m sprint in 8.91 seconds and 200m in 29.90 seconds.

Samia Akbar – PB in 60m sprint - 8.90 seconds.

Maddie Deverell – PB in 60m sprint - 8.73 seconds.

Martha Keohane – PB in U17 60m sprint - 8.85 seconds.

Well done to all the athletes and coaches on their fantastic efforts. Best of luck to those advancing to the national championships in two weeks.

Coughlan leads home Trinity College Squad in England

Evelyn Coughlan led the Trinity College squad in the Oxford vs. Trinity College Dublin cross-country match on Saturday, March 8th. This historic meet, first held in 1898, took place over a challenging, hilly course in South Park, Oxford. Evelyn delivered a strong performance over the 8.8km race, securing an impressive fifth-place finish overall.



Lisbon Half Marathon

Three of our ladies joined a group of friends from Tullamore for an exciting trip to Lisbon, Portugal, on March 9th. Competing alongside 30,000 other runners in this iconic international event, Emer and Tracey Kinnarney took on the half marathon, while Tracey Stewart raced in the 10K.

Road Racing Over St. Patrick’s Weekend

The recent bank holiday weekend saw no shortage of road races, with the blue and white singlet making appearances across the Midlands and beyond. Ideal racing conditions—dry and fresh—set the stage for some great performances.



Portumna 10K

On Sunday, March 16th, Josie Lalor and Melissa Hogan took on the scenic and varied terrain of the Portumna 10K. Josie clocked 58:45, while Melissa crossed the line in 1:40.



Skerries 10K

Brendan Kelly put in a stellar performance at the Skerries 10K, also on March 16th, securing a personal best of 41:44.



AON Mullingar Half Marathon

Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, saw four Tullamore Harriers members competing in the AON Mullingar Half Marathon. The race was won by Evan Fitzgerald (West Waterford AC) setting a new course record of 1:07:28 and Elizabeth Carr (Mullingar Harriers AC) claiming the women’s title in 1:16:21.

Leading the way for Tullamore Harriers was Fergal Leonard, finishing 23rd overall in a superb time of 1:19:35. Jamie Malone impressed with a massive personal best of 1:23:13, while Paul Shaw and Sandra Busteed completed the course in 2:09:37 and 2:11:55, respectively.



Portlaoise 5K

Tullamore Harriers had strong representation in the Portlaoise St. Patrick’s Day 5K, with Leslie Buckley, Helena Buckley, and Paschal Naughton lining up alongside over 800 competitors. Hosted by Portlaoise AC, this high-calibre event once again attracted a top-class field, with Killian Mooney (DSD) and Hannah Steed (Leevale AC) securing victories in 14:57 and 16:45, respectively.

Leslie delivered a fantastic time of 19:30, while Helena and Paschal followed with times of 23:21 and 24:25.



Letterkenny Mile

Michael Murphy made the long journey to Letterkenny to compete in the prestigious Michael Murphy Sports Elite Mile Race—an invitation-only event for top milers based on their personal bests.

Murphy led the race until the final 400 meters when Cathal O'Reilly (Kilkenny) surged ahead to take the win in 4:12. Murphy finished strongly in fourth place, clocking 4:17—matching the time of the third-place finisher.

Congratulations to all athletes on a weekend of outstanding performances!
