Suspended sentence for Offaly motorist who drove uninsured car
A motorist was given a suspended prison sentence and disqualified from driving for six years at last week's Tullamore District Court.
Valeriu Telescu (32) of Boyne Meadows, Edenderry, was driving without a driving licence, learner permit, or insurance at Dublin Road, Edenderry on September 1, 2024.
Solicitor Aisling Maloney said he was travelling to work, his friend had become ill and he took over the driving. She said he had a Moldovan licence. He does apologise, she added.
He works full time and has two children back in Moldova and he is the sole breadwinner.
Judge Andrew Cody fined Mr Telescu €750 and disqualified him from driving for six years.
For driving without insurance he fined him €750 and imposed a sentence of five months which he suspended for three years. He granted legal aid in the case.
