ON foot of calls from residents in Connolly Park in Tullamore, a dead swan was removed by Offaly County Council on Monday last.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will now examine the dead swan to ascertain the cause of death.

Local councillor, Shane Murray, said members of the public are advised not to handle sick or dead wild birds of any species and pet owners are advised to keep their dogs on leash when walking where sick or wild birds are or have been.

"If you, or someone you know, comes across a sick or dead bird, the incident can be reported to the local council, the regional veterinary office or by calling the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine disease hotline number 01- 4928026."
