Iconic footballer remembered in Offaly football tournament

A MUCH celebrated footballer was remembered in a football tournament between Cappincur and Daingean last Saturday.

Cappincur defeated Daingean by 4-15 to 1-16 in the Division 2 Football League in Cappincur in a game that also doubled as the Frankie Brennan Memorial Tournament.

With Bill Carroll in fine form, Cappincur were able to get away for an impressive win in an entertaining game.

This annual tournament celebrates the memory of late Cappincur man, Frankie Brennan. A teak tough footballer, he was instrumental in some great Cappincur successes at the end of the 1980s and in the early 1990s. He also gave great service to Daingean in those days when players from lower grades could also play with a senior club in the same parish.

Frankie was also an excellent athlete and a large crowd turned up for the game with refreshments served afterwards.

€1,500 was raised for the Palliative Care Unit at Tullamore General Hospital.
