20 people still on Offaly licenced premises at 1.30am - man fined

No effort by staff to move them on said Garda

A man was fined at this week's district court for allowing people on a licenced premises after hours

20 people were still on a licenced premises in Birr at 1.30am when Garda Dhiarmaid Loughnane entered a side door of Haverty's, Moorpark Street, Birr on January 6, 2024, last week's district court heard.

In his evidence to the court Garda Loughnane said when he returned at 2pm to the same premises there were still 9 people present. There were drinks on the table and there appeared to be no effort by the staff to move them on.

Before the court was Darragh King, Killeen Birr, who had three previous convictions, one for a similar offence in October, 2022.

Solicitor Patrick Martin described Mr King as a 40 year old single man.He said Haverty's was a small pub and there had been a darts final that night.

Judge Andrew Cody noted that the offence happened 15 months after the previous conviction.

He fined Mr King €750 with three months to pay.
