The Black Mills complex in Roscrea
Roscrea Heritage Society was delighted to host the first of their Black Mills Sessions for the 2025 season in the stunning venue located in the heart of Roscrea and in the shadow of the Monastic Round Tower.
St. Cronan’s High Cross once stood in the graveyard of the nearby church of the same name, but was moved to the Black Mills for conservation in 2004 and makes a stunning centrepiece in the impressive venue and greeted the audience for the first in the series of this year's very popular Black Mills Sessions.
The venue was perfect for the performance, as the acoustic properties of the mill are extraordinarily good.
“Huge thanks to Séamus Moloughney and Pat Byrne who kick-started the first of our Black Mills Sessions for 2025 on Friday last. They both entertained the audience throughout the night with fabulous renditions of folk songs and stories”, Roscrea Heritage Society said.
“It was great to once again hear music in the Mill and the night was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The society would also like to thank the OPW for facilitating the event and to Eileen for all her help.
“Last but not least, huge thanks to all who attended on the night; your support is greatly appreciated”, they said.
The Society is delighted to announce a full line - up of artists who will perform in the Black Mills this year.
Sessions will take place on the last Friday of every month (April – November) with an extra session in August to coincide with National Heritage Week.
