An Offaly jersey made a proud appearance as Alex Dunne moved to the top of F2 World Championship on Sunday after a fabulous win in the Feature Race at the famous track in Imola.
After Alex jumped from his car after a dominant winning drive, the jersey was front and centre in his supporters as he celebrated the win.
The win moved him on to
Starting fifth on the grid, Alex showed lightening reflexes off the line to avoid a car that stalled in front of him and he was fifth into the first corner.
He remained in fifth until the pit stops after lap six of the race where his crew did a tremendous job to jump him up the order to effectively third place.
Unlike F1 where pit stops tend to take place at roughly the same time, cars tend to run dramatically different pit strategies in F2 and the race leaders were behind a group of drivers who started the race on different tyres.
Alex moved up to effective second when he took advantage of a mistake by Dino Beganovic before putting a perfect overtaking move on Luke Browning to get to the front of the cars who had pitted early.
And once he took the effective lead, he really showed his class as lap after lap he overtook the cars who had yet to stop and was at the front with a six second lead when the dust had settled.
From this point on, he wasn't going to be touched securing his second Feature Race win and taking the 25 points that moved him to the top of the World Championship on 64 points, six ahead of Luke Browning.
