A woman drove with double the legal limit of alcohol in her system
A woman who drove with double the legal limit of alcohol in her system was put off the road for three years when she appeared at this week's Tullamore District Court.
Fiona Light (35) of Killane View, Killane, Offaly, was stopped on October 29, 2024 at Saint Mary's Road, Edenderry.
Sergeant Richard Thornton said Ms Light had a blood alcohol reading of 293 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
Judge Andrew Cody remarked that this was double the legal limit, with the top being 150 milligrams of alcohol.
Ms Light had no previous convictions and works in accountancy. She was suffering from very strong anxiety at the time and was aware she would receive a disqualification her barrister said.
Judge Cody described Ms Light as being ''paralytic'' with a ''colossal'' reading.
Her barrister asked that any disqualification be postponed until September as her daughter was learning how to drive and is hoping to have her licence soon.
Judge Cody imposed a three year disqualification and a €750 fine. He postponed the disqualification until August 1 and told Ms Light that if she as much as parks on a double yellow line she will be back in court. Let her be under no illusion, he said.
