TWO Offaly boxers had big wins in the National Elite Competition at Belfast this week. Daingean's Brian Kennedy and Tullamore's Grainne Walsh were among the twenty boxers crowned national champions in a packed programme of events.

Boxing for St Brigid's Club in Edenderry, Kennedy, a member of a very well known Daingean family, had a 4-1 win over Jason Clancy of Sean McDermott Boxing Club, Leitrim in the mens' 85kg class.

Tullamore woman Grainne Walsh is the best known boxer in Offaly and she captured another national title when out boxing Kaci Rock of Holy Trinity Boxing Club, Belfast in the womens' 65kg final. Now boxing for the St Mary's Club in Daingean, Walsh won a split decision, 4-1 – formerly a member of the Sparatacus club in Tullamore, Walsh achieved one of her big life ambitions last year when boxing at the Paris Olympics.
