MARIAN Shanley, presenter of The Power of Dreams on Dublin South FM, paid a special visit to LOETB Birr to award the students with “Outstanding Contribution and Creative Excellent & Positive Social Impact Certificates” recently after being inspired by the students remarkable initiative that has captured national attention. This award for Excellence is the first and only one that will be issued in an educational setting in 2025!
Marian, the host of the Power of Dreams, is also an artist (see marsshanley.com) who advocates wellness through the arts, and is known for spotlighting positive stories and emerging talent on her show, so she really understands the journey of a creative from the inside out was moved by the creativity, drive, and compassion shown by the students. During her visit, she met with the students, teachers, management and supporters behind the initiative, and praised the group for using their passion for music to make a real difference.
The Music Industry and Event Management students in LOETB Birr raised over €2,350 from the Dance with Me Tonight Concert in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre and the release of the single of same name which scored the highest new entry in the Top 20 Home-grown charts for Make a Wish, Ireland.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in LOETB Birr, Marian said “This is what the power of dreams looks like in action,” adding “These students didn’t just chase a goal - they used their talents to lift others and contribute to a cause that changes lives. It’s inspiring, and it deserves to be celebrated and acknowledged with this Award.”

Enda Kennedy, the Centre Manager reinforced Marian’s view. “It was a brilliant demonstration of the students channelling their passion and applying the skills they’ve gained here, resulting in a powerful blend of teamwork, creativity, I am delighted that Marian has chosen to acknowledge their success with this prestigious award."
John McFadden, Music Industry and Event Management teacher added "In an era where the music industry has been become so competitive and hard to generate funds, the students used the knowledge acquired from the course and applied their skills to make the project a commercial success which has benefited themselves in terms of experience and professional profile as demonstrated by gaining this prestigious award.”
On the day, Marian announced to the students that they would be welcome to host a takeover on her show “The Power of Dreams”, which as seen with the smiles on their faces in the photograph was met with excitement and enthusiasm. This takeover will see the students work with media professionals to programme, curate and run a two hour radio show on Dublin South FM later this year.
