Walked out of Dunnes Stores in Tullamore with trolley without paying

Longford man's trolley contained items worth €563, local court told

COURTHOUSE 2

The case was heard at last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court

A LONGFORD defendant was charged with stealing a number of items from Dunnes Stores, Church Road Tullamore during last week's Tullamore Court sitting.

The court was told that Joe Lawrence, 48 Springlawn, Longford entered the store on January 1 last, filled a trolley with €563 worth of items and exited the store without paying for them.

Mr Lawrence pleaded guilty to the offence. Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that none of the items were recovered and the defendant had no previous convictions.

The defending solicitor Brian Duffy said his client is on disability benefit due to suffering from Crohn's Disease, “which is a very debilitating disease.”

The Judge adjourned the case to December, to allow the defendant time to pay the compensation in full.
