The new Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Councillor Declan Harvey has set out his top list of priorities for the coming year. Cllr Harvey Fianna Fail was elected to the chair at the June meeting of the council. He has mapped out his vision for the town.

''First on my list is to ensure that Uisce Eireann begins the sewerage upgrade on Tyrells Road this year. They have confirmed that they will do so and work is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with completion expected by the end of 2026. I will be keeping an eye on that,''

For a long number of years, residents living in the area have contended with unsanitary and distressing conditions, particularly during heavy rainfall, when toilet paper and human waste were frequently visible on public footpaths.

''My second goal is to continue to prioritise the N52 Tullamore to Kilbeggan Link.''

In April this year local TD Tony McCormack announced that the Government had agreed to fund the project. He described it as a ''landmark'' moment and said it will bring safety and increase tourism to the historic area. Councillor Declan Harvey says he will keep pushing for the work to begin.

Third on Cllr Harvey's list is the regeneration of Tullamore. He says he will press for progress on the remaining approved projects in the town, including Acres Folly and Meath Lane. These are to proceed in the next 12 months. He also wants to see the development of proposals for the next stage of Tullamore Harbour Masterplan.
