Shock at tragic death of well known Pullough sportsman in work accident in Offaly

THE man who died in a work-related accident at Ballinamere outside Tullamore on Wednesday afternoon has been named at Paul Loonam, from Pullough..

It is understood that the middle-aged man was working with a digger in the area when the incident occurred.

Gardai and the emergency services were called to the scene.

Paul, from Back Road, Pullough, was the father of the professional boxer of the same name.

He was the force behind St Carthage's boxing club and was his son's coach.

In his earlier years, the late Paul played football with Erin Rovers in the 1980s and 1990s and was a solid wing back who played the game in the right spirit, winning championships medals with the club.

Paul worked in the building trade and was a very popular member of the local community.

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife Carmel and family, Ashling, Sinéad, Kevin, Róisín, and Paul, mother Rosaria, grandchildren, Mason, Amelia, Charlie, Isabelle, Laura, Rosaria, Gianni and Darragh, brothers, John, Kevin and Carlo, sons-in-law, Aaron, Luke and Dylan, daughter-in-law, Karolina, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral details have not been released yet.
