A VERY promising young Offaly golfer has continued her rich vein of form by winning the Ulster Girls U18 Championship.
Rahan woman Ella Cantwell was in blistering form as she emerged winner at Lurgan by a whopping eight strokes.
Representing Esker Hills Golf Club, her win follows hot on the heels of her recent second place finish at the Munster U18 Girls Open Championship – she set a great -5 67 course record in round two at Newcastle West Golf Club in Limerick.
A student at Killina Presentation Secondary School and also a member at Tullamore Golf Club, she has been selected to represent Leinster at the U18 interprovincial competition in Millicent Golf Club next week.
Playing off +1, Cantwell dominated the tournament and was five shots ahead after 36 holes, extending her lead in the final 18. She finished on two over, 218 after rounds of 71, 74 and 73m, clear of Tralee's Ella Moynihan.
Another Rahan youth, Evan Monaghan, from Killina, has also been selected for the interprovincials and will represent Leinster in the U18 boys competition. A member of Tullamore Golf Club and also a student at Killina Presentation Secondary School, Monaghan has also embarked on a very promising amateur career, earning international selection.

Meanwhile Tullamore man Stuart Grehan was a member of the Irish squad that just missed out on a bronze medal at the European Amateur Team Championships in Killarney. Grehan played very well as Ireland competed strongly, losing to England in the bronze medal match. A former professional and now a member of the County Louth Golf Club in Baltray, Grehan and Ireland almost made the final when being pipped by Denmark in the semi-final.
