A TALENTED young Offaly girl made history when she became the youngest person to score two goals in the League of Ireland Womens' Premier Division last Saturday.

15 year old Emma Mooney netted both goals as Athlone Town recorded a big 2-0 win over Wexford. She is the second youngest player to score in the League of Ireland Premier Division and the youngest to score two in the one game.

Tullamore woman Emma is a multi-talented young sports woman. She has been capped for Ireland U16s, swam at a high level, also plays ladies football for Tullamore and has competed in athletics. She started playing soccer with Killeigh Schoolboys and Girls Soccer Club before moving to Athlone.

She has now continued her remarkable rate of progression by making their senior team. A student at Tullamore College, her father Leonard was an excellent Shamrocks forward in the 1990s and 2000s, playing minor for Offaly and making a handful of league appearances for the seniors in 2006. Her mother Verona Smyth is a well known solicitor in Tullamore and also a keen sportswoman.
