Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Offaly’s ancient monastic heartland, this sacred walk invites participants to deepen their spiritual connection while exploring one of Ireland’s most storied landscapes. More than a pilgrimage, it’s a profound experience of shared tradition, reflection, and the enduring beauty of the Irish midlands.
Join pilgrims for this event, set within the magnificent monastic landscape of Offaly. The walk offers a unique opportunity to connect with spirituality, heritage, and the stunning scenery of the region.
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., pilgrims will gather at the starting point in the ancient Romanesque Church of St. Carthage, located in Rahan Demesne, Rahan, to commence this meaningful journey.
During this in-person event, participants will explore the ancient path connecting Rahan and other historic sites to the sacred place of Clonmacnoise. As they walk together, they will be able to witness breathtaking landscapes, visit significant sites, and explore Ireland's rich spiritual heritage.
Open to individuals of all faiths and backgrounds, this ecumenical pilgrimage promotes unity, reflection, and personal growth. Along the journey, pilgrims will have the opportunity to participate in prayer, reflection, and thoughtful discussions, nurturing a sense of community and understanding.
Whether you are seeking a deeper connection with your spirituality or wish to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, the Rahan to Clonmacnoise Ecumenical Pilgrimage offers an unforgettable experience.
Participants may wish to participate in the entire Pilgrimage or in a part of the journey that suits them. Alternatively, they are welcome to attend only the opening and closing services at St. Carthage Church, Rahan, and Temple Connor Church, Clonmacnoise.
